CMU Football Roster Turnover

A lot of buzz right now about player departures with the CMU football team. As of now I know that Dannie Bolden, Taylor Bradley, and Will Schwarz will not be returning to the team next season.

In terms of the hot name right now, I have nothing to report on LaVarus Williams. He has made some statements on facebook about his status with the team, but I can't really take that and run with it as it could be 1. fake, 2. emotional responses to something that hasn't fully played out yet. Enos is out on the road right now doing recruiting things for Signing Day on Feb. 2. I hope to speak with him upon his return to do a follow up on the season. I will be sure to get to most of the questions you all have.

If I hear anything else on the team or specific players, I will be sure to post it here. I would anticipate some roster turnover, it happens with each year and every coach, no matter if it was a winning season or losing season.

*At the request of representatives for Dannie Bolden they ask I provide a correction and state that he did not have "off the field issues" as part of his departure for the team. Perhaps my wording was questionable. Bolden was suspended mid-season for a violation of team policy and didn't return and will not be part of the team next season. My apologies if anyone interpreted my statement as Bolden doing any sort of wrong doing in a legal sense.

Bryan Schroeder

I have heard many of the rumors saying that Bryan Schroeder has left the CMU football program. I am trying to confirm something solid, but nobody is certain he has left. He has missed some recent workouts and some of the players "think" he isn't going to be part of the team next year. Apparently, it wouldn't be about transferring to another program, many believe he is simply burnt out from injuries and football.

Should Schroeder leave, it would certainly be a tough loss. I thought he was one of CMU's best players in the final five games of the season. He ran with a lot of power and burst, but that style leads to a lot of injuries. CMU has depth at back with Tim Phillips, Paris Cotton, Carl Volny and the young freshmen that were red-shirted including Zurlon Tipton and Malek Redd.

Also on a side note, I have seen Taylor Bradley around the offices a lot and it looks like he will be eligible to play next season, which can help make up for a loss of Josh Gordy and Kirkston Edwards in the secondary. I for one thought Bradley would start in 2009 at cornerback, so if the year off hasn't hurt his skills too much, he could be a big asset to the defense next season.

Football loses a pair

Well, the Central Michigan athletic department is losing athletes like flies these days.

I had it confirmed to me yesterday that defensive backs Chaz West and Taylor Bradley will not be with the football team because of academic ineligibility.

This is a big loss for the Chippewas. I left the spring feeling that the defensive secondary had some tremendous depth with West coming back from injury and Bradley making huge strides in his conversion to cornerback. I though Bradley may very well have been a starter on defense to open the season.

While I feel that the secondary still has a lot of strong talent and depth, I don't feel as good about it now as I did before.

It is too bad these two couldn't get their academics straight. I know that the demands of being a student-athlete are great, but both had to realize their importance to this team this season and found a way to make it work.

On a lighter note, I was also informed that these two were the only surprises to not be on the fall roster and that everyone else should be set in terms of being injury free and eligible to play.
